Exactly what I was wanting!

I too was about to add an enhancement request for Core to do just this, when I saw that it had already been requested and this plugin was the result. It’s just as I imagined.

I can only hope that, in time, this gets added to Core, especially as it’s a similar premise to the inline link feature.
