I have installed MLA and experimented with options for its “gallery.” Lots of good stuff, am still digesting it.
    BUT
Cannot figure out how to use/see/implement the “example plugins.”
I’ve activated two of them…and now what? I was expecting 1) something to have changed on Dashboard, a new item added somewhere, or
    2) somewhere in the documedntation of each “example plugin” to find a
sample shortcode. I found the code of the “example plugin” but that does not tell me how to use/implement it.

Am I missing the BIG picture?

Thanks for your positive comments and for digging into MLA’s features. Thanks as well for your stimulating question. I have reviewed the Example Plugin help menu and Documentation section, and I can see there’s room for improvement.

As the Documentation section states, “Most of the examples are drawn from topics in the MLA Support Forum.” Many of them are quite specific to one or more Support Forum topics and are of little general interest. You wrote “I found the code of the “example plugin” but that does not tell me how to use/implement it.” Most of the example plugins have some documentation in the comments at the top of the source file, and more recent plugins include references to the topics that inspired them. I have not had time to review the oldest plugins to add this information to all of them. For example, the “MLA Gallery Hooks Example” plugin dates back to October, 2013.

That said, some of the example plugins have become quite useful and popular. Many of these now have a proper settings page with a Documentation tab that explains their use. Here are the example plugins with a Plugin Documentation tab:

    • MLA Advanced Custom Fields Example
    • MLA CSV Data Source Example
    • MLA Custom Feed Example
    • MLA Parent Custom Field Mapping
    • MLA Path Mapping Example
    • MLA Random Galleries Example
    • MLA UI Elements Example (maybe the most popular/useful of all)
    • MLA USP Novo Map Example
    • Smart Media Categories

A couple of popular plugins provide “tools” to address common problems and issues; they don’t have Documentation but the home page contains a lot of usage information. Here are three of them:

    • MLA Insert Fixit
    • MLA Unattached Fixit
    • WooCommerce Fixit

I am slowly adding Documentation tabs and other material to example plugins as I have time. Here’s a very useful example plugin that is high on my list:

    • MLA Substitution Parameter Hooks Example

That plugin adds a number of substitution parameter prefix and data source values that many MLA users find helpful.

That’s the BIG picture for now. I hope you find the above material of some help. I am marking this topic resolved, but please update it if you have further questions or suggestions about any of the example plugins. Thanks for your understanding.

THX for the quick response. You have given me lots of threads
to chase down. Previously, I had activated only two (not sure which as I write this), and didn’t find usage info.

RU sure U don’t take “donations?” I am willing.

Thanks for your generous offer. You are welcome to click the Donate button at the top right corner of the Settings/Media Library Assistant page to make a tax-deductible (in the USA) donation to a very worthy cause. Donations and positive reviews are great incentives to keep working on the plugin and supporting its users. Thanks!

speaking of documentation, the following URL/link/document
    https://wpprotools.io/plugins/media-library-assistant/

has incomplete shortcode examples, i.e., one cannot see all the
    characters between [ and ].

to say it differently, the shortcode lines that display on my
screen are truncated. I tried both with FireFox and Chrome.

I just went through the MLA example plugin list in my MLA installation on BlueHost, and do not find
    “MLA Substitution Parameter Hooks Example”

I searched on words “hooks” and
    “substitution” separately.

Thanks for both of your updates and for your continuing exploration of MLA and the example plugins.

First, regarding the “incomplete shortcode examples” on the page you found, that page looks like a copy of the official plugin “Details” page in the WordPress repository. Have a look at this page instead:

    https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/media-library-assistant/

The examples on the “official” page have scroll bars that let you see the rest of the shortcode text.

Second, regarding your search for the example plugin. Here is the best way to access the example plugins, and both of the keywords you tried are working on my system. A search for “substitution” returns three examples and “hooks” returns 17 examples.

Navigate to the Settings/Media library Assistant Documentation tab and click the “Example Plugins” button. Type “substitution” or “hooks” in the text box and click “Search Plugins” to filter the table.

You are looking for the “MLA Substitution Parameter Hooks Example” plugin. Find that plugin and hover over the title in the left-most column. Click the “Install” rollover action, then go to the WordPress Plugins/Installed Plugins submenu and activate the example plugin as you would any other plugin. Make sure you have version 1.14, the latest update.

Let me know if the above method is not working for you.
