Excellent, Free, Well Done … But Slow

  • This is a fantastic effort, and thanks for it. BackupBuddy does the same thing, but costs a bunch of money, and in fact this does things more nicely.

    The only reason I don’t give it 5 stars, is it’s very slow in extracting and modifying the data. I guess that’s in comparison to BackupBuddy, as my main point of comparison.

    Thanks for the feedback! If you can give the developer version a try it now has mysqldump integrated which does speed up the database build, and the extraction engine has been speed up as well. The very latest version (0.5.0) can be found by following these instructions:

    -> Browse to https://www.ads-software.com/extend/plugins/duplicator/developers/
    -> Look for the section “Other Versions”
    -> Click on “Development Version” and download the zip plugin file
    -> Uninstall your current version and install this one
    -> Note: This is a development line version so please test in your sandbox first to make sure you have no issues…

    A few friendly points to consider on your vote is that this is a completely free plugin and really shouldn’t be compared to a commercial plugin that has an entire team of engineers and has also grossed well over $10 million in revenue from its plugin.

    Duplicator is solely a free volunteer effort. While I don’t get to work on it full time it still has consumed quite a bit of personal time and effort. I would hope you could reconsider your vote…
