    Hi,

I appreciate this plugin, really useful.

I’d need to be more accurate in the exception management of the external links on my website, which can be divided into 2 main parts :

1/ There is an editorial part on the website, managed by the team of the site : All its external links are good and need to remain set as (do)follow.
This part contains different main pages (approx. a dozen) and many subpages and sub-subpages.
    Ex : site.com/team-part1/ ; site.com/team-part1/subpart1 ; site.com/team-part2/ ; site.com/team-part2/subpart1 ; site.com/team-part2/subpart2 ; site.com/team-part2/subpart2/sub-subpart1

2/ There is an UGC part on the website, whose content is principally fulfilled by subscribers. I want their external links to be set as nofollow.
This part contains only one main page and many subpages and sub-subpages.
    Ex : site.com/ugc-part/ ; site.com/ugc-part/subpart1/ ; site.com/ugc-part/subpart2/ ; site.com/ugc-part/subpart1/sub-subpart1/

How to manage my usecase by taking into account all the subpages and sub-subpages ? Is it best to :
    – Exclude all pages in 1/ ?
    – Include all pages in 2/ ?
=> For either of these solutions, which settings must be applied in the Exception tab in the plugin ?

Thanks a lot for your help,
    Regards,
    Law

  • @laucoste if site.com/team-part is working as expected and You just need to put site.com/ugc-part set as nofollow just go to Exception tab and add site.com/ugc-part to Exclude external links by URL field.

After doing this, go to Excluded Links, activate it if not already done, and set Set follow or nofollow: to nofollow.

Should do the job. Keep me updated please.

    Hello @manuelrocha88
    Thanks for your reply.
Unfortunately I forgot something : the “ugc-part” is a forum. That means that all the structural forum links will be unfollowed with this solution (I wanted to unfollow only the messages inside the forum)…
    I’ll think more about it…

    Law

    @laucoste let’s see if I got it.

So You want site.com/team-part, when all it sub paths to be followed along with the site.com/ugc-part. But all sub paths from site.com/ugc-part should be unfollowed? Is that what You want?

If not, can You give me a more specific explanation on what You are expecting/trying to do?

Oh… Excuse-me my last message was wrong and you previous answer was OK to resolve my problem.

In my last message, when I said “the structural forum links” they are – of course- internal ! So there is no problem with them, as we affect only external links.
And these external links can only take place in the users messages.

So I test your solution and will give you a feedback.

In Exceptions tab, I let with default values :
    – Own settings for excluded links : Own settings for excluded links
    – Skip script and mailto : both checked

    regards

After applying the settings like above, and a test of a new external link on a page “site.com/ugc-part/subpart1/sub-subpart1″, this external link is tagged like that :

    data-wpel-link=”external” rel=”external noopener noreferrer”

=> so the tag rel=”nofollow” is missing

In Exception tab >> Exclude external links by URL field, does it take into account all the subpaths of the URL (and add “site.com/ugc-part” in my case) ?

As you can see, my test was precisely in a subpath.

    Thank you,
    Regards,
    Law

@laucoste site.com is your domain (internal) or 3rd party domain (external)

    Site.com is my domain (internal)

@laucoste if site.com is really internal it should not be marked as external but as internal. Is site.com really the main domain or is it a subdomain?

    Hi

    My URL website is
    https://site.com
I applied precisely the settings like described above. Please see these screens and tell me what I could change :
    – External Links : https://pasteboard.co/J7yjNTj.jpg
    – Excluded Links : https://pasteboard.co/J7yjztt.jpg
    – Exceptions Tab : https://pasteboard.co/J7ympdu.jpg (I’ve tried with and without the trailing slash for “site.com/ugc-part”)
