Excerpt length in homepage

  • One more questions: I noticed that the excerpt length for the posts in the homepage is determined by a certain number of words (maybe 17 or 18, is this right?)

    This results in different heights for each post. Is there any way to determine the excerpt length by number of characters, and not number of words?
