• I’ve been testing out Social Networks Auto-Poster, and after a few days of trial and error I’ve got nearly what I’m looking for. One thing still remains unsolved. For most social media, the URL to my post is good enough because I have good Open Graph metadata. Posting to Twitter pretty much only need the tags added, as the Twitter Card result is fine.

LinkedIn doesn’t seem to be including the Open Graph data, in particular the description. I create them within Yoast’s except field. That pushes out very nicely when a post is shared to Facebook, Twitter, etc.

To provide brief description to my post for LinkedIn, I tried the %EXCERPT% variable in Social Networks Auto-Poster but I found it doesn’t pull this content from Yoast. So instead of the nice except I’ve written, Social Networks Auto-Poster is pulling the first few characters from the main content. That’s far from optimal.

The only work around I can think of is to copy the text I’ve written in Yaost, and paste it into Social Networks Auto-Poster – for each and every post! That defeats the purpose of automating the tasks of auto-posting. I could also paste the Yoast except into the WP except field, but again that’s adding an extra step when I’m trying to remove steps (just to solve the LinkedIn issue).

Is there a way to have Social Networks Auto-Poster pull from the except I wrote in Yoast?

If not, can you please add this feature? I’m hoping it’s a basic API call or filter that can be added. I’ll add the filter to my functions.php is this is possible.

Ah, just remembered something I read a couple years ago. A quick search reveals LinkedIn does use the Open Graph description, but I’m not seeing this happen on my posts. I can manually insert my URL, and it still doesn’t pick up the description. I looked at posts I’ve done manually months ago, and they don’t have a description. Scanning my feed from dozens of other posters, I don’t see any descriptions. As far as I can tell, the documentation from LinkedIn is wrong. They are not adding the open graph description.
