• Hey guys..

I have been working on SEO for my blog, and one thing I learned to fix was creating excerpts instead of showing the full blog posts.

So I downloaded and uploaded and activated Excerpt Editor, I created all my excerpts then as I was told I went into the index.php and tried changing the_content to the_excerpt.

I did this and nothing at all changed on my page.

So I figured there was more to it, I went back to the coding and changed every time I saw “content” to excerpt.

    Nothing changed still..

I have no clue how to solve this.. I searched google and I’m completely lost.. lol

Is the plug-in broke, are there better ones, or what’s going wrong?

  • Excerpts are a built-in feature in WP. Why would you need a plugin for it? What is it supposed to do?

(and since you use a not free theme the author should give you more precise instructions)

Well the theme I use is free…

And i used a plug-in because I was told it makes it easier.

Nothing for the excerpts is working.. I tried using the Options – Reading, and using excerpts in there.. No excerpts show.

So then I tried plug-ins and nothing is still working regarding the excerpts.

I have been fooling around and I noticed that if I going into the singlepost.php and I change it to be the the_excerpt it deletes the post content, does NOT show the excerpt that I wrote out, but does give the custom link to “read full article” (which doesn’t help because it’s only on the posts page itself.. it does not work for the index.php)

If it has “sponsor” links – it is not “free”!

The excerpt will never work on single post view – which is using the single.php (that should be the standard template file name!)

The template tag called the_excerpt will work only in the so-called multipost views: index, archive, category, search.

I don’t know what the plugin does, but normally you should just replace the_content tag in the template files mentioned above, and it should work.

Moshu, is right, just try ‘n’ understand:

    1. excerpts are being used to display Short posts on index, archives, category, search pages.

    2. Single.php is meant for full post contents view. If you’re going to change single.php from content to excerpt mode, then, where, you’ve planned to display full posts?

Re #2. – even if you do that, it will not work… WP is smarter than that ??

    Yeah! that’s true.
