I’ve installed the free version of WordFence on several of my websites. My intention is to convert to full license, but one thing I’ve noticed is that there are hundreds, if not thousands of transient entries created in my options table. Most of them seem to be of the “wflgin” variety. These seem to have been created over about 2 weeks since I installed the plugin. This seems very excessive to me, and I’m sure that there is another way to do whatever you are doing that doesn’t involve populating the options table with so many transients that make it very difficult for me to find stuff that is actually relevant.

    I request two changes:
    1. Reduce (or better yet, eliminate) the number of transients that are used.
    2. Delete transients as soon as they are no longer needed.

    Thank you.

    David,

Thank you for the report. I have sent this on to the dev team, with reference number FB1114, and it will likely be improved in a future release. These transients are used to temporarily track failed login attempts. I haven’t seen that many before, but I confirmed on a test server that I do see some that are expired. It most likely means that your server has had failed login attempts by a large number of unique IP addresses.

Since this change won’t happen immediately, you may want to use another plugin to clear the large number of old transients. There are a few listed here, but I have not used any of them personally:

If you use one of these, I recommend backing up your database first — most are probably fine, but there is always a chance of conflicts with other plugins that could cause unexpected issues.

    Thanks again!
