Exclude Pages From Search

Is there some way to exclude pages from the search results.. other than listing each page ID in the settings panel? It seems like it should default to NOT searching the pages since most pages are menu items (i.e. login, logout, lost password, about us, and so on). These are not the kind of pages that contain information that a user would want to search.. generally speaking. I have at least 15 pages that contain no information that needs to be searched because they are functional in nature. I plan to have more in the future, so I would love to be able to exclude pages in some simple way. Thanks for any ideas that anyone might have on how to do this.
By the way I tried commenting out the “// Search pages” section in the search-everything.php file and it still includes pages in my searches!
