Excluding Featured Posts

Hi,
How can I exclude featured posts on a page?
I have an Owl Carousel Slider that loops through a set of featured posts and that works great.
However, further down on the same page I am listing all posts based on categories, which also shows the featured posts already shown in the slider.
How can I exclude the featured posts?
I have tried the suggested post__not_in based on meta_query and tax_query but the featured posts are still showing.
