    Excluding Images in Galleries

There are two methods to do this. However, if I use Method 1, it doesn’t sync with the Galleries in Manage Galleries (the images I’ve selected don’t show as selected). If I use Method 2, they DO show when I view the gallery in Method 1.

Is there a way to make Method 1 sync with the Manage Galleries Gallery?

    Method 1
    Edit page
    click on gallery
click on Sor or Exclude Images
This is the method recommended by https://www.nextgen-gallery.com/excluding-images/

    Method 2
    Gallery/Manage Galleries
    click on Gallery

@dosuntai – Although essentially the same operation these two methods are treated very differently in NextGEN Gallery.

Method 1’s effects are immediate and *only* affects the display it was used with.

Method 2 will affect galleries that are inserted after the fact, but can be over-ridden using Method 1 for the specific display.

    Thanks!

    Thank you, Cais.

However your comment, “Method 2 will affect galleries that are inserted after the fact, but can be over-ridden using Method 1 for the specific display.” confuses me. How would “galleries inserted after the fact” affect exclusions in any gallery, however they’re made? Is there something I need to look out for that could undo my exclusion settings, made with either method?

Is it possible that in the future these two methods could be synchronized?

@dosuntai – The IGW is designed to allow you to have a unique configuration of every display it is used to insert it with. That being the case, for example, if you have a gallery of 10 images that you use in three different places but each placement needs a different set of the gallery images displayed you could exclude all of the images that are not common to the three placements under Gallery > Manage Galleries.

Then in each inserted display via the IGW you could change those exclusions as needed by going under the Sort / Exclude accordion tab for the specific display and un-checking the Exclude box for the image.

IF you choose later to go back to the “main” gallery under Gallery > Manage Galleries and exclude another image from the example set of 10 that image will not be excluded from any current inserted displays but would be excluded from the fourth, fifth, and so on as the case may be … and again that could be changed with the actual insertion of the display via the IGW.

Given all of the above, it would go against the general design and management philosophy of the plugin to synchronize these sub-sets of the main gallery, but that does not mean we would not consider it as an additional option via a Feature Request at this page: https://nextgen-gallery.com/feature-voting/

Feel free to share your thoughts and ideas on this “new” option there, the more interest by the community at large for a feature request the better its chances of being implemented.

    Thanks!

    – Cais.
