exhausted memory

  • I have been reading through the support threads, but it is still unclear exactly how to fix this memory issue. Let me explain my sites issue.

    A while back recived an error stating that my 8Mb memory alloocation was not enough, so I aske my host to increase this to 16Mb for php and everything worked fine until today.

    I decided to add a table from word into my post for today. Once I pressed save I got the following error:

    Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 16777216 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 35 bytes) in /xxx/wp-includes/functions.php on line 1250

    Now Im not sure if the two are connected or it was just that I have too many processes running?!

    I have emailed my host who tell me they can’t increase the 16mb anymore and it must be a technical issue?

    I have published and deleted a number of posts, but can’t get rid of this error. If I ask it to save the post it does actually do it, but this error appears first and I have press back on browser? I have also tried using firefox as well but it makes no difference.

    I dont know whether I need to

    a) cut down the amount of plugins I have running
    b) reduce number of posts I have on from page
    c) reduce the number of pictures I have in a post
    d) a combination of these

    I am only 6 months into blogging and having this issue already, which does not bode well for the future. As I can only see expansion of my database and more traffic.

    Any suggestions as to why this is happening?

  • well i can see that your server memory can support only 16 mb

    can you replace my same code instead of 0M try placing 34M

    I can try adding that code but its my hosting that will object and it doesnt really solve the problem of why this is happening. Most people say that wordpress should go near the 16MB so increasing the capacity is avoiding the real issue.

    Dont know where to go from here? It only seems to be a problem for the post function i.e. when you are “saving and continuing” “save” or “publish”

    The rest of the backend seems fine.

    I really think the database got borked, whatever the reason. Does the backup function within wordpress work? I think that plugin comes with 2.0.2. Anyway, what I’m getting at it that you should run a backup of the database, and then get in there with phpmyadmin and see if you can repair the database. I think someone suggested optimizing it earlier in this thread. There are other functions in phpmyadmin that may repair your problem. You can check, repair, analyse, and optimize each individual table in your mysql database.

    edut: I just read back and see you did some of this.

    I would personally go further, rebuilding the site from scratch. Only to be attempted after a thorough backup of your database and all of your files. Without knowing where the problem is, you may be forced ‘cut butter with a chainsaw’ if you know what I mean.

    I have another thought. I wonder if this could be somehow due to disk space. I wouldn’t really think so, but you seem to be putting a lot of pictures on your site, and they take up disk space. Can you find out how near your limit you are? Do you have some kind of control panel that will tell you?

    What plugins are we running? What happens if they are disabled?

    Bandwidth Quota: 1259.249 / 10000.0 MB Used
    So no where near used up!

    I wonder if it has anything to do with my wysiwig editor. When I add a new post and save it I get the error stated above once I click back it seems to have saved what I have put in the field, but wraps all the text together. Could this be a fault which somehow describes to error??

    Resolved the issue.

    It was the Dagon Design Form Mailer Plugin for some reason draining the memory.

    glad you’ve got it sorted! and I’m really glad you didn’t have a borked database. and I really should have suggested you turn off plugins myself! it’s the first thing I do when I’m diagnosing anything. I kind of skipped over that with your problem. Fortunately, the force is with handysolo! ??

    Can you tell me what version of the plugin you were using? I had not heard of this issue before, but I would be interested in any information you could share (such as how long had you been using it before noticing these problems, how many forms you had it set to generate, etc..)

    I am actually in the process of a complete rewrite (v5), but I would still like to figure out why it could have been doing this ?? Thanks.

    I have the same problem right now. I try to deactive some plugin and my wordpress is OK. I think it’s about server memory. I can not edit php.ini file anyway, I have asked my admin hosting, but he said he can not do that. Sound sad with cheap hosting ?? Any solution please?
