• Hi,

I love the plugin because it’s the first time I was able to force bit.ly links when someone was sharing from my site to Twitter. Before it would do something like:

    %Post Title% https://domain.com/post-url-too-lo…. via @MyTwitter

See how it would do the “…” because the url is obviously too long for Twitter and the Twitter share button doesn’t shorten URLs by default?

Well I have some pretty decent social sharing stats for this particular blog, and Im a believer that more people will share something if they seen its been shared a good amount of times already. Well, when I activate your plugin it automatically resets those stats because it’s not reading the stats for the newly generated bit.ly links.

Is there anyway to force bit.ly for a) only Twitter, and b) only when someone hits share?

    Thanks!

    Tom

  • I want this too. It’s forcing the canonical URL to use a bitly URL.

I have the same problem with my social buttons (plugin Digg Digg). Bitly resets my social shares.

I saw a similar discussion at https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/conflict-with-yoast-seo-plugin which discuss compatibility problems with the plugin SEO by Yoast. People complain that Bitly changes the canonical URL. And the problem as classified as “Resolved” with a promess of repair!

I have just installed Bitly and cannot say about URLs, but the reset of social shares is still a problem. I had to desactivate Bitly.

If you guys have good news, please tell me.

    Thanks,

    Lilian
