• This only began after transfer of site to new host (Hostgator to BlueHost) and change of site URL. I imagine the transfer and db changes have caused this. Problem: Subsequent to Elementor editing on ANY page, and clicking on the Elementor ‘EXIT TO DASHBOARD’ at the bottom of the Elementor panel after clicking the 3-bars, the focus is taken to the WordPress edit page instead of the WordPress Dashboard. WordPress, Elementor and plugins all current.

  • I experience the same issue without migrating.
However I do use the Multi-Site setup of WordPress not sure if that’s related.

So what happens is when I choose the “Exit to Dashboard” when editing a page I get redirected to the default WordPress Edit site.

During editing the website url shows: wp-admin/post.php?post=5&action=elementor
After choosing “Exit to Dasboard”: /wp-admin/post.php?post=5&action=edit

Because I was editing a page I expected to go the pages: /wp-admin/edit.php?post_type=page
Then again it says “Exit to Dashboard” so another option would be to main dashboard url: /wp-admin/admin.php?page=custom-dashboard.php

    Worpress version: 5.4
    Elementor version: 2.9.7
    Hosting company: SiteGround

I ran into the same issue and found your post when searching for an answer. After a couple hours of wondering why one of my WP sites was working fine, and another wasn’t this solved it for me. Try installing the Classic Editor Plugin:

Once active, it should now go back to the wordpress dashboard without having to click twice.

    https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/classic-editor/

You can also just hit the browser back button to get back to the list of site pages, assuming the changes have been published.

If you are still having an issue even after trying the above, also make sure to set the new URL in Elementor > Tools > Replace URL. In case the migration tool didn’t change the URL automatically.

@foamzilla I just got back on and tried the classic-editor plugin that you suggested and that works as you described. Very odd. And as I said originally this was a host migration from HostGator to BlueHost. Are the 2 WP sites you have both 5.4 and on the same host? Thanks.

Yes, same host, Siteground. What happened for me is siteground offers an option to install the classic editor before the wordpress installation in done, so it works seamlessly in the background I think. For my wordpress duplicate site I used to switch the domain name, this function for classic editor might have been left out because the duplicate was done on a wordpress level and not siteground level? I am only guessing here, as I am relatively new to wordpress, but it’s the only logical reasoning I can think of why I have different results for the 7 sites I have hosted on Siteground right now.

Either way, classic editor was the missing piece. It could also be that wordpress 5.4 upgraded their page editor and forced it by default?

I am having this same issue, using BlueHost – selecting “Exit to Dashboard” from an Elementor edit page returns me to WordPress Edit page instead of Dashboard, and if not careful and don’t select edit with Elementor, it will change the page to a WordPress native page.
I installed and activated the Classic-Editor plugin as mentioned above, but there was no change (contrary to the post above).
    Any other ideas?

Same issue, straight from Go Daddy, no migration.

This looks like an Elementor bug in their latest update. This is the only report of it that I can find. Probably have to report it to Elementor.

Workaround: Elementor has a Finder tool that shows up on that same menu. If you select finder and start to type in “dashboard”, after just a few letters it auto selects “dashboard” and you can click on it to go straight to the dashboard. Still more clicks than there need to be, but it doesn’t drag you through the WP editor. Added bonus, you can use the finder to jump directly to other pages. See their Finder Blog.

Thank you for the workaround. That’s good to know.
I also found that on the same menu, under settings, I could click dashboard settings and get back. A few more clicks, but… Not as good as Finder though.
    Thank you.
We all need to send a note to Elementor about this issue.

So I entered a trouble ticket at Elementor. Here’s the reply I got back:

    Thank you for contacting us.

Exit to dashboard option is meant to go WordPress editor of the current page or post. It never redirected to WordPress dashboard before.

First of all, why? Second, then why is the button labelled “Exit to Dashboard”? Third, why?

    Unbelievable.

@joecastor Thanks for the tip. Dashboard Settings, however, opens up in a new tab and leaves the editor open in the old one.

    Here’s a 2-Click method!

    1. From that same panel, click “View Page”. (This is not a bad idea anyway once you are done editing.)
    2. From the WordPress menu at the top of the page (under your-site-name), select Dashboard.

Well, 3-clicks; since you have to get to the panel in the first place.

    dhenningcpa,
Thank you for your efforts on this. It seems as though Elementor’s Exit to Dashboard has been broken/wrong for a long time and then they fixed it? Why would an Elementor page builder user ever want to next go to a WordPress page edit that will destroy their Elementor page? Oh, well. Just need to retrain my self to not believe the Exit to Dashboard button.
Your idea of using the View Page is a good one, although it is still a new tab with editor page remaining open, but I usually do that anyway.

“It never redirected to WordPress dashboard before.”

I guess that we all have been imagining it then.

Ha! My thoughts exactly. Mass hallucination.

Maybe we can crowd source all the Elementor Pro users to send them an e-mail requesting they fix it.

Thanks for the tips, installing classic editor works a treat. Looks like the new wordpress editor is hiding the dashboad menu.

    Hi,

The ‘Exit to Dashboard’ button was created to redirect you to the current default page editor so you can be able to add tags, change the featured image, publish date, revisions, etc.
    https://docs.elementor.com/article/303-default-colors-fonts-and-color-picker
(Please take a look at the last line)

If you wish to easily go to your dashboard you can use our The Finder feature.

    – Notice that WP 5.4 WordPress editor is hiding the dashboard menu.

Or you can try installing the Classic Editor if you wish to use the old behavior.

I hope this information helped you.
