I noticed on a bunch of themes that the post image that contains the text expands vertically the more that is written. How is this achieved?

  • Example? Hard to tell what you mean…

You might be referring to repeating background images…

Like wearitwell said, it’s hard to get a clear idea of what you mean..

    Here’s an example –> https://www.ads-software.com/extend/themes/ahimsa

On the ‘ahimsa’ theme the white background image where everything gets posted expands vertically relative to how much is being posted. Let me know if I’m being clear enough. Thx.

Just standard behaviour for most elements, the height extends as far as the content requires..

Useless you specifically set a height or hide the overflow of content elements will naturally extend vertically to accomodate the content placed inside them…

I see. The thing is I’d like to use a background graphic I made in photoshop as a background for my posts. It’s just a semi transparent rounded rectangle with a border. ‘https://www.webdesignerwall.com/’ some how figured it out…notice the white notebook paper background image extends/expands with every comment…

Any ideas how this is done?

There are several static images, but there are also some repeated backgrounds used to, this one in particular relates to the effect you described above…

A clever series of CSS and PHP tricks i’d imagine, more then i’d care to try and explain…

I can only suggest digging around for some themes that do the same, not necessary a design you want, just look at how they archieve particular effects…

Thanks for pointing out that image. I took a look at it’s CSS and you’re right… the website uses two static images for the top and bottom and sandwiches a repeating image in the middle. Not as complicated as I thought!

Thanks a ton for the help.
