We’re on a multsite installation and noticing that expires headers are not being added when autoptimize is enabled. We’ve changed to 2017 theme and disabled all possible plugins to troubleshoot but don’t see any changes. Anyone have any thoughts on where else to trouble shoot? TIA!

Well, AO in the default confguration servers the files statically (.css / .js) and the expires headers are to be added by the webserver. For this purpose AO adds an .htaccess file in wp-content/cache/autoptimize which Apache servers can use but that also depends on the global Apache config. When not on Apache you’ll have to configure your webserver yourself OR switch to “dynamic delivery” by unticking the “server as static files”-option in which case the CSS/ JS is served by PHP-code which adds cache-control/ expires headers.

    hope this clarifies,
    frank
