    In the 1.42.0 update, the changelog includes the entry: “Easily promote job listings on Indeed, LinkedIn, and 1000s of job boards with JobTarget integration. See https://wpjobmanager.com/jobtarget for more information.”

    Could you include more information (in more detail than on the webpage) about this new feature and how it works on both the back-end and front-end?

    Here are some questions just off the top of my head that would be helpful in understanding this new feature:

    • What is involved in setting-up JobTarget on the back-end?
    • Are there costs involved in having job posts shared to “over 25,000 unique job boards”? (On the URL above, I see it says “The bulk purchasing power helps keep sponsored listings costs low for?you.” Could you provide more details on this?)
    • What fields are required for the job posts to show-up correctly on other job boards and what if you are using custom fields?
    • What happens when the job post is filled, edited, or expired?
    • How does the “Programmatic” option work exactly?
    • Where does the JobTarget step in the job post submission process come and what options are there for it on the back-end?
    • Can the JobTarget options to have posts shared to other job boards be limited on the back-end?
    • What options do website users see on the front-end when reaching the JobTarget step in the job post submission process? (On the URL above, I see it says you can “Pick your job boards & budget”–what does that look like and how does that work exactly, though?)

    …among quite a few other questions!

    Oh yeah, and if we don’t want this functionality (though I think it sounds like it could be great!) can it be seamlessly disabled?

    Hi @hastibe,

    Thanks for asking! We partnered with a service called JobTarget to be able to easily promote jobs to all sorts of job boards. Basically the way it works is there’s just a Promote button you can now click for each job listing that will take you through a flow where you can pick and choose what job boards you want to promote your job to. No setup required on your end or on your site at all.

    Yes, if you go promote a job you will have to pay. I think it depends on what job board/s you choose!

    What fields are required for the job posts to show-up correctly on other job boards and what if you are using custom fields?

    Job Title, Description, and the listing URL are sent to JobTarget, but once in the flow you will be able to fill more details out.

    What happens when the job post is filled, edited, or expired?

    You would need to manage your promoted job at that point if you wanted to not promote it any more.

    How does the “Programmatic” option work exactly?

    JobTarget will recommend job boards based on your job listing data.

    Where does the JobTarget step in the job post submission process come and what options are there for it on the back-end?

    It’s only done on the back-end right now from the Job Listings page. It’s not available for people submitting jobs on the front end.

    What options do website users see on the front-end when reaching the JobTarget step in the job post submission process?

    The promote option is only available on the back-end. You can try clicking “Promote” on one of your jobs to see all the steps required!

    @mikeyarce — this is very helpful in understanding this feature better (and I definitely had some misconceptions about it, thinking it was a front-end option for users posting jobs), so thank you so much for the speedy and detailed reply, I really appreciate it.

    Are there plans or ideas about the ability to promote a job being incorporated into the front-end for users posting jobs to decide on?

    I can imagine that there are a lot of job board operators that would (1) want the decision to promote a job to be the posters (as the job board operator won’t automatically know if promotion is wanted or not by the poster), and there are probably a lot of job board operators that would (2) also want / need that extra expense for promotion (depending on how much the cost is, at least) to be paid by the poster as opposed to the job board operator.

    Can you tell me more about what you mean by this?

    I will bring it up with my team for sure! I’m curious to see how well recieved this is and depending on that we’ll have to see if it’s worth doing for front-end as well, but thanks for the suggestion.

    @mikeyarce — Oh, and one other reason for a front-end integration is also that there are job board operators that would (3) need the extra work to promote a job to be handled by the poster (e.g. if a job board gets ~8 jobs a day, and it takes even just a minute to promote a job, that means an extra hour of work each week).

    What you said about seeing how it’s received and what else comes up before planning next steps makes a lot of sense, though, and I’ll be curious to explore using it and to hear more about how it is working, etc. for other folks, as well!

    Hi, good morning. Reading this thread I would like to expose that the idea for having WP Job Manager in our sites, I think most of us is for earning, so If we place the button on front-end for our clients, this will not bring us any benefict, quite the opposite, it would make us lose returns, and would probably be unaffordable for our businesses.

    @ibiza69 — yes, in fact, whether the option to promote a job post is on the back-end (as it is now) or is added to the front-end, I think this new option for job posts ultimately would really benefit from (and, yes, need on the front-end) the ability to upsell it to those posting jobs on our boards, so that -at the very least- the cost of using this new option can be passed on to the job poster / client, if needed.

    Right now the audience we were thinking of for this feature was more along the lines of company sites managing their own job openings directly for their careers page. Do you think there would be demand from employers on public job boards too? (Paid by the employers on the frontend?)

    @yscik8 thanks for asking Peter. Answering the question, from our side that have 5 job websites with your WPJM since about 8 years ago, would not, as the Human Resources departments mostly don′t pay a cent. for publishing their job offers, they are usually administrative personnel who have this function, but do not have company funds for this purpose. They go here and there to post (to all free websites that they know), but “always for free” and if there is any of them interested on paying, that are so scarce, so few, that they can be counted on the fingers of one hand and we have thousands of companies registered on our websites…, thanking us daily for the great work we do, the impressive impact their offers have and the number of applications they receive.

    To give an example, we finally included a donation button through Paypal, knowing in advance the times and times that they had thanked us for our great work and in 3 years with the button in the entire companies backoffice, not a single donated a cent…

    Even, either don′t like to pay for highlighted offers for some cents….

    We get our returns from Adsense, that would be all. This is why this new button confused us if it is finally presented on the front of the website.

    Just an small question, we didn′t update our sites to this last WPJM version because of all this that isn′t clear enough (for us) and our question would be: “It’s possible to disble this option competly, maybe from some function option?”

    There definitely would be interest. This is a pretty common offering that we see (here’s one example of it) that would be very nice to be able to provide those job posters who are interested in it.

    @mikeyarce — a few more questions before we hopefully can try this feature out! On the documentation, it notes that you must complete registration for JobTarget “so JobTarget can contact you when needed,” and then highlights the following:

    Important! Ensure your email is correct! Your email address will be your JobTarget ID, so it can’t be changed once added to the system. 

    Some questions about this, just to make sure I understand:

    • Is the email address we use made publicly accessible in any way by how JobTarget uses it?
    • What is the implication of an email address being our JobTarget ID? And what is a JobTarget ID? Is it just the term JobTarget uses to register and identify accounts in their system, or something else?
    • Despite best intentions, sometimes the email address that some of us used in this first step will need to be changed, though, right, so what options are there in this case?

    @mikeyarce — the documentation also notes the following:

    You can also provide a Contact Email specific to this job to receive applications from candidates and for job seekers to contact you for information about the job. This is helpful in order to be able to attribute job applicants to a promotion. If no email is provided, the Site contact will be used instead.

    For context for the question below, on our regional job board, we are using a custom textbox field for the details on how to apply for the job listing, where the various employers who submit the job listings to our board will provide a link to a form (on their own website or applicant tracking system) and/or provide an email address to which to send the specified details (typically a cover letter and resume, though it varies), among other details (like the application deadline, etc.).

    If possible, we’d like job seekers on other job boards who are viewing a job that we promoted to be redirected to the job listing on our job board to see the application details and complete the application process–is this possible (and, if so, should we provide no email address when promoting a job listing, or would that mean that these job seekers will see the email address that we provided as the JobTarget ID or some other “Site contact” email address)?

    @hastibe I believe the promoted listings will always link back to the job listing on your site, the contact e-mail wouldn’t be hooked up as a direct way to apply to the position.

    For the JobTarget account and site admin e-mail, it’s private, and JobTarget creates a regular user account in their system for the e-mail — which you are automatically logged in to when wpjobmanager.com opens the jobtarget.com site. It might be possible to change it (or just create a new account), but reach out to [email protected] beforehand to handle it on our end too.
