Export and Import WordPress Media, Posts and Pages

The export file doesn’t contain images, only text and meta data.

If the images were properly attached to their posts/pages (as they would have been if uploaded normally and not manually unattached), you’ll notice an option to download attached media during import. This will essentially reach out to the exporting site and directly copy over the images.

All done, and all images are transferred to a new site, but how with this small size?

The 27 MB is only text, it doesn’t actually contain the images. There’s data in the export file which essentially facilitates a transfer of the images from one site to the other.

So, If the old site is offline, we will have a problem ?

I’ve imported all my images, which were almost all attached. All came through as unattached. How can I get that many images properly attached without painstaking work manually (which would take hundreds of hours)?

Some of the old ones came attached but not in recent years.

It looks like the smaller mb images showed up in their proper places but the larger ones did not transfer properly. Can someone please give very easy-to-follow instructions as to how to fix this. Nothing too techy please.
