• My blog has been through the export process twice now. Once from my hosted site to wordpress.com (100% successful) and once, just 7 days later from wordpress.com to a new hosted site.

The second export, whilst apparently successful (ie all posts and comments are actually present in the xml file) is unsuccessful at the import stage… refusing to import anything after october 2006 to the new site.

I’ve had to resort to using the older exported blog from the previous hosted site, and that was 100% successful However I am unable to import the posts from the past week from wordpress.com

Anyone else tried this? Anyone got any suggestions? Should I just do a manual repost of all posts and comments?

  • Any errors showing up when you do the import? Checked the web server’s error logs?

At a guess, I wonder if you’re hitting an php upload limit. Might be something your host could help with.

No errors at all, everything hunkydory as far as the import tool was concerned, and no upload limit. Its just weird. In the end, I just decided to never-mind about the few comments and manually added a few of the posts I made over the past week. I’m glad I decided to move back to regular hosting now, and not in a month or 6. yikes.

I actually wondered if there is something in the way wordpress.com creates the export file that is different to the way a regular wordpress install creates an export file.

To the best of my knowledge they’re identical/interchangeable.

    How odd.

Very odd indeed. The two files I have are also identical, except for the fact that the wordpress.com one has an additional 5-6 posts, plus comments. The new install crapped on that, but happily imported all posts from the older file up to when I moved the blog the first time.

If there was an error to show the problem, that would be lovely, but as I said, as far as the blog is concerned… everything completed as it was supposed to.

I have this same problem, it seems the problem is with the attached images. I solve the problem importing the XML file first in another WordPress.com blog (this take out the reference to the attachments), then exporting again from this new blog and then importing to my hosted WordPress installation.

Hope this help, sorry for my bad English.

    I currently have two blogs.

My current blog keeps having outages, so I switch to my spare blog.

I would like to pull my posts from my spare blog over to my main blog.

If I use the import action to try to pull the posts from my spare blog to my main blog, do I run the risk of losing the stuff that’s on my main blog already?

Also, can I pull over just the posts and the comments. If so how?

I was thinking that if not, then I could pull all the posts from the spare blog (there are only about 10 posts), then just delete the ones I didn’t want.

    Would this work?
