Hello, I have a shop created with woocommerce. One of my customers would like to open a store on our marketplace.

He has his own Woocommerce store, he did an export there, we imported that TXT file and it doesn’t work. Every line is a product.

Also when I want to open his TXT file in Excel, everything is in one column.

I did the same with my own store, exporting products, opening in Excel –> everything perfect.

When importing, his file appears to be 1200: Unicode separated by commas. my file is 65001: Unicode (UTF-8).

How can I solve this and import his products?

  • Hi @lodetkint

    Thanks for reaching out!

I understand that you are using the third-party plugin WC Vendors here and you are experiencing issues using it.

Since you are using a third-party plugin that we don’t provide support for based on our Support Policy, I recommend that you reach out to the developers of the plugin for further assistance. They will be better equipped to help you resolve any issues you’re experiencing with the plugin.

All the best and hopefully, the issue will be fixed soon.

Hi @xue28 i have now issues with the WC Vendors plugin. I would like to import products into Woocommerce.

    That does not work

So the problem has nothing to do with WC Vendors.

The problem is that his “exported” txt file could not be imported in our shop. although both shops are made in Woocommerce

@xue28 see also my printscreen, when i open his file in excel, everything is in 1 column. When i do the same with my export file – everything is just perfect.

    Hey there!

From what you mentioned it seems the issue is not on your website, but on the exported file, correct?

Have they tried to export the products again to see if it is exported correctly?

Do you know if they followed the steps listed in this guide to export the product?

Since the issue seems to be on their end, it would be helpful if they contacted us directly so we could investigate it further.

    Looking forward to your reply.

    Have a wonderful day!

Hey @carolm29 thank you for your respons.

I think he did it correctly like this : “products” –> “all products” –> “export”

This is like in the description in the guide link. I don’t think you can do much wrong?

He did it while we where on the phone…

Where can i post the txt file here? Maybe you can trey to open it in excel to test

    regards, Lode

It’s so stupid and frustrating. We simply export products form a woocommerce shop and try to import it in an other woocommerce shop… That should be easy peasy… so i think i overlook a small detail also something stupid i think? Maybe different wordpress versions? I don’t know, but This should just be super simple. My woocommerce website also recognizes all columns in the TXT file and all data should be able to be added in one simple movement, in my opinion.

    Hello @lodetkint,

I think he did it correctly like this : “products” –> “all products” –> “export”

I can imagine your frustration. Just to clarify, WooCommerce exports products in CSV format. From the screenshot you attached, the file appears to be a TXT, meaning it wasn’t exported via WooCommerce.

As you might already know, WooCommerce products are essentially WordPress posts. There are several third-party plugins available to export custom post types like products, which might have been used here, like WP All Import.

I recommend contacting the vendor and requesting them to properly export the file, as demonstrated in this guide: https://woo.com/document/product-csv-importer-exporter/#export

Alternatively, you can ask them about the method they’re using to export products in TXT format and use the same method to import products to your site, just keep in mind that we cannot provide support for third-party solutions per our support policy.

Let us know if you have any other questions! :?)

    Hey @lodetkint!

We haven’t heard from you in a while, so I’m going to mark this as resolved. Feel free to start a new thread if you have any more questions.

    Hey @carolm29 @babylon1999,

First of all, my best wishes for 2024!

I asked my customer to provide me with a new export file. I received a new: .txt and .csv file. I tried again, but it still doesn’t work. When I’m analyze the import in my Excel file, it looks like something is going wrong in the product description. Every time there is ” \n ” there is a new line in Excel… When I look at the document. This \n si is causing the problem i think.

This is a screenshot of the CSV : https://snipboard.io/9aR7jA.jpg

This is a screenshot of the CSV imported in Excel : https://snipboard.io/5cZqyH.jpg

In the last printscreen you can see that the import is starting good : ID – Type – Article -… but then in the item description column it goes wrong. In line 37 you can see that the second product is starting back good : ID – Type – Article – … and then back wrong in the description column.

Do you have an idea how i can fix this?

    Regards, Lode (https://www.velofever.cc)

    Hi @lodetkint,

The issue seems to be related to the format of the exported file. Specifically, the newline characters (“\n”) in the product descriptions are causing the data to break into new lines when opened in Excel, which is why the import isn’t working as expected.

One solution could be to have your customer remove any newline characters from the product descriptions before exporting the file. Alternatively, you could use a text editor (like Notepad++) to find and replace all instances of “\n” in the TXT or CSV file before importing it into WooCommerce.

However, the best solution would be to import using a plugin like Product CSV Import Suite, Import Export Suite for WooCommerce, or WP All in All Import, which provides more control over your product imports and exports. It supports complex products and custom data from themes or other plugins. It might be a good investment if you frequently import products from different vendors.

I hope this helps! Please let us know how it goes or if you need further assistance.

@lodetkint I had the same problem.
    [Woocommerce CSV file export horizontally]
Woocommerce is exporting (at least on my websites) the products by comma “,” delimiter by default. Installing a plugin where you can change the delimiter settings fixed my problem. I needed to change the Delimiter to semicolon “;” and all the horizontal products are now vertical as they should be.
I have used the Product Import Export for WooCommerce and they have this option free.

(Someone should add a note in the import-export tool of Woocommerce to notice such things as they can be very time-consuming) or just add the option to the export as the import has.
