Correct, the regular import does not import the meta data. However, after you have imported normally, run the import process again with Nav Menu Roles’ importer and all the meta data should be added.

I’m still looking for something that imports/exports just the menu, but haven’t found it.

    hi Helga,

    Thanks for your reply.

Please can you help me on how/where to find the “Nav Menu Roles’importer”?

Importing metadata from *any* post might have to be a feature, do you think this has to be implemented in WP Core?

    Thanks,

It is in with all the other Importers. Go to Tools > Import. See the screenshot:

If you export *all* your content, the menu meta data *is* there. Weirdly, it gets dropped by the WordPress importer plugin. Run that same full export .xml file through the Nav Menu Roles importer and the meta data will be added to the menu items.

It won’t be added to core, I’d imagine, but I’d love to see the WordPress Importer plugin get an update.

    Thanks Helga,

It’s nice that you put the import in the right place. It’s funny that I was looking for the import feature everywhere else but in the Tools|Import. ??

Thanks again for your time and effort in nav-roles-menu.

    Yes, you’re completely right.

But it’s common for plugins to have import/export functionality outside Tools admin menu.

Your website contact form is not working to me, I have some issue with the blank/required field. Please, can you contact me for a private question? [email protected]

    Thanks again!

That’s true. I figured users would already be going there to import their regular content. Copying the regular importer was the easiest for me, because import/export isn’t my thing. I would much rather prefer that import/export be handled by that specific plugin, but https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/wordpress-importer/ was falling short there so I tried to fill in the gap.

My form should be fixed now, thanks for pointing that out.
