export/import select posts, wp to wp

  • Is it possible to export and import certain posts from one wordpress site to another?

    For example, let’s say I want to export all the posts in the category “travel” to a site that is more specialized in travel. However, I do not want to export the posts from categories, like “wordpress”, “health”, “careers”, etc. Is this possible and if so, how?

  • I’d like to know, too. I want to import only the posts that were published after a certain date.

    I also got advice from someone on twitter, who said that another easy way might be to export all the posts, then delete all posts within a particular category (which is not too difficult in WordPress).

    what about wanting to forward individual posts to another blog? i know exactly what post i want to export to my other blog, but i don’t want to have to copy/paste text and photos and videos etc. is there a plugin (with a custom field possibily?) for this?

    I’ve had no luck with exporting via the xml interface. Import always seems to puke. But I’ve been able to do exports with SQL.

    Problem is, you’ve got to change your post_id numbers in wp_posts, and wp_postmeta, and you’ve got to make sure there are no collisions, which also means you have to change the URLs that link to that post.

    I’m sure a database whiz could program it. I transferred about 6 posts from one site to another, and it was an extremely tedious manual process.

    Two possible choices, using the Tools->Export thing…

    Assign the February posts to an author then restrict the Export to that author.

    Or Export then edit the XML file to delete all unwanted posts, then import.

    I would do as MichaelH stated. This seems the easiest way to go about it.

    What kind of problems were you having with the XML file?
