    Hi,
This is my first time building a WordPress site locally using MAMP, which I’m now ready to move to my hosted server. Does exporting the local database delete the local working environment? If I decide so, will I be able to continue working locally if need be? Secondly, I currently have WordPress installed on my hosted server, which would be the best practice, to delete the WordPress install or change some core folders/files?

    Thank you!

Does this WordPress installed on your hosted server works without any issue?

If your local WordPress install and the one installed on your hosted server are brand new, then keep both as they are.

Keep your local install as a test site.

    Thanks for your reply.
So exporting the local database does not ”ruin” the local site and I can continue working on it. Correct?

Don use the same database name for both installations. Use different database names.

Your live hosted site has no link with your local installation. It doesnt matter even what you do with databases. Both are totally independent entities. Keep same names, there is no problem.
