Exporting XML file from older version ok?

  • I have an outdated version of WP version 2.1.2 installed in a /blog/ folder of my website. I am planning on exporting my entire blog database as XML file, delete this WP installation then install a brand new copy on my root domain, then import my database I saved as XML file.

    I’m wondering if it might be an obsolete version of XML file that could have problems importing into a new install of WP.

    Should I first update this version of WP before generating my XML file?
