I have placed a slider in the primary/main content area on the page I want to set as my site’s home page, and want it to stretch the full width of the site, including across the sidebar widget space, “overriding” it. However, I still want the sidebar to show up on the page as well, but below the slider. So, I’ve added a top margin on the sidebar widget space to move it down to allow room for the slider, but I can’t seem to find the right code to expand the slider across the page as the second step (I tried to play with overflow and float). Please help with code that will do this, but not apply to the rest of the page (primary) content below it–I have already assigned a div to the slider w/ class “home-pic-slider.”

<u>Note</u>: I do realize that the Dara theme allows for a static home page w/ a slider of featured posts. I have tried to play with that functionality, but I am looking to feature photos in a slider not posts, at least for now, and want to use a more advanced slider plugin for this than the Dara one. This is why I’m asking for help with this issue, and once I figure this and a few other things out for that page, I will be hiding the theme slider container with ‘display:none.’

If a resolution to this approach seems to be more trouble than it’s worth, please suggest another way to accomplish what I’m looking to do. Thanks in advance!

I resolved this using these directions in conjunction with the shortcode widget plugin. Woohoo! The advanced slider plugin is now showing up on my home page under the header as a custom widget area added to function.php and header.php files.
