• Redirection was working fine for us up until a few months ago. When we try to add new redirects, they show up in the list but result in either no redirect happening, or a browser error (when you access the actual redirected page) saying page could not be displayed due to a circular reference. After some digging we exported the CSV file of all the redirects and noticed that new redirects added lately have some extra characters being mysteriously added to them (which we are not typing in.) I’m guessing that these extra characters are what is causing the problem but I have no idea where they are coming from. Anyone have any ideas? Here is an example:

    Normal redirect: /courses/microsoft-access-2003-vba-and-automation-training(.*)
Redirects as they are appearing lately: /courses/microsoft-access-2007-intermediate-traininga€?(.*)

The “extra” characters are being added between the word “training” and the left parentheses – despite the fact that they do not show when we look at the redirect while in the plugin. The only show when we export the CSV file. We are using WordPress redirects.

  • I can’t reproduce this. If I were debugging this, I would install Redirection in a different WordPress instance in the same environment (same server, if you can), and see if the behavior is happening there.

Otherwise, try reinstalling the plugin, and maybe run a security audit on yer code, to make sure there isn’t anything else causing extra characters to be inserted. ^_^
