extra classes and id’s?

  • I just installed WordPress and am so far liking it a lot more then MT, although I have yet to attempt changing the look or style. I was looking at the index.php file and the wp-layout.css file and I noticed something, There is a div id=”rap” at the top of the index page, but no #rap anywhere in the css file. Same goes for the class=”storycontent”. No .storycontent at all in the css file, yet it’s around every entry on my index page. And I don’t want to get rid of these and screw the look up. but if they’re not listed in the css file, it should be ok to get rid of them, right? My css skills are not that great lately. Can anyone explain if they should be thereand why? Or if it’s ok to get rid of them? Or is this just a really stupid question? And sorry if I posted this in the wrong area. Wasn’t sure what this reallyt fell under.

    Thank you, that helped with the rap thing, I know what it’s for now and can work with it, but there was nothing in there about the storycontent class. I guess it’s sort of the same idea then.

    Again, thank you Podz. A very good help doc. And since I’m so use to MT I’ll be using it a lot. I think I’m more scared of the php stuff, but the css was freaking me out too. Maybe it’s just first time nerves… or I’m just a bit chicken.

    In general, I always assume I want more markup around. At any time, I can then adjust/tweak the look of things quickly from just the CSS. Extra divs and spans come in handy, as do putting classes or IDs on other elements.
    Just because it isn’t currently being used in your CSS file isn’t a reason to delete it. It denotes a certain area and type of content in your HTML.
    Of course, that’s just one opinion. ?? And I’m a crazy hacker when it comes to php/css stuff at this point! ??

    Once I get the hang of it, I’ll customize it a lot more, I just wasn’t sure if I got rid of it, something bad would have happened.. Like the end of the world, or the site telling me to go to hell in russian or something. I just like to know what things are for before I start playin around.

    I’ve added a small chunk about the .storycontent tag
    If there are other tags in the default wp-layout.css that you think it would be useful to be in that little guide, please do say ??
