Extra Field

I wanted to remove the extra field where it asks how you heard about us. when i left it blank, the field remained but with about a discription. I understand now from reading the support forum that i can not remove this. But how can i add the field discription “how did you hear about us” ?
I double click in that area but the option to add text there has been removed.
