After updating the extra sorting options is showing as inactive. Do we need to do anything for Extra Sorting Options to appear?

We are running the latest version of WordPress and the database has been updated.

The error message being displayed on the status page is: WooCommerce Extra Product Sorting Options is inactive. This plugin requires WooCommerce 3.0.9 or newer. Please update WooCommerce or run the WooCommerce database upgrade.

    We’re running: 4.1.0

    Can you please assist?

    Hey @markpatterson2!

Thanks so much for your question today. When activating the plugin there are a few checks that it performs to make sure it would run okay on your store. The part which would cause this error is if WooCommerce wasn’t active at the time, or the ‘woocommerce_db_version‘ option stored in the database is not greater than the minimum WooCommerce version required. In this case, 3.0.9!

Could you please make sure WooCommerce is active when attempting to activate Extra Product Sorting Options, and if the error continues, could you try to click the link in the notice to update the database?

Please do let me know if neither of these work for you, and I’d be happy to take a closer look!

    Cheers,

    Simon.

    Hi @skyverge

I am having this issue on a site as well.

I am running two of your plugins:

    1. WooCommerce Customizer
    2. WooCommerce Extra Product Sorting Options

and I see a notice for both of them. When I click on the update Woocommerce database option, it just shows a “the link you followed is expired”. I have already run the DB update from recent Woocommerce update.

I am running the very latest version of Woocommerce as well v4.5.1. Issued appeared after I updated Woocommerce.

    Thanks for your help.

    Best Regards
    Paul

    Hi Paul – @paulluxford,

Marcus from SkyVerge, stepping in here to take a look at this with you.

Thank you for letting us know about the plugin versions and steps you’ve taken already, along with the “expired link” error message.

As Simon noted earlier in this thread, there are a couple of scenarios that would trigger these messages. Could you please make sure WooCommerce is active when attempting to activate Extra Product Sorting Options, and if the error continues, could you try to click the link in the notice to update the database?

If this still produces an error, would you please temporarily deactivate one of these two plugins to see if you can update them individually?

    Thanks,
    Marcus

    Hi Marcus – @marcusskyverge

Thanks for jumping in to help me with this one.

    Woocommerce (4.5.1) is active.

I deactivated the Extra Product Sorting and then re-activated it, then I clicked on the “update Woocommerce database” link and I still see the expired link message.

I did the same for the Customizer plugin and same thing.

This is the messages I see > https://prnt.sc/uid23h
This is the expire link message i see when I click on the “update database” link > https://prnt.sc/uid2p9

There are many other plugins active as well, so perhaps a plugin conflict maybe. Any other ideas are very welcomed.

Thanks for your help Marcus ??

    Best Regards
    Paul

    Hi Paul – @paulluxford,

Thanks for following up and providing these additional details! That’s really helpful.

It’s always possible that another plugin is conflicting, so we may need to see if we can rule that out. It could also be that these messages are simply “stuck” here and we need to find out why.

Would you please let me know if the plugins are working as expected? If so, it may be an issue with the messages and not the plugins themselves.

    Thanks,
    Marcus

    Hi Marcus – @marcusskyverge

    Thank you also.

Yeah I suspect it must be a conflict somewhere. Whilst the plugins show as activated in the plugins list, the functionality / settings tabs are not displaying in the Woocommerce settings page.

I’ll go through and find out which plugin is causing it and report back to you.

If you think of anything in the meantime, let me know know.

    Thank you

    Best Regards
    Paul

    Hi Paul – @paulluxford,

Thank you for the update. Please do keep me updated on the progress here.

I might also recommend running the WooCommerce database update manually (not using the links in the messages). You can do this by going to WooCommerce > Status > Tools and clicking the “Update Database” button about halfway down the list here.

Would you please give that a try and see if it works as well?

    Thanks,
    Marcus

    Hi Marcus – @marcusskyverge

Thanks for your help and suggestion. There was another issue on the site that had a huge amount of auto load data in the wp_options table. I cleared the issue out of the table and that seemed to have solved the plugin issue as well.

I also did what you suggest as well, for good measure, so I am thinking that the Woo database did not fully update due to the other issue.

So all good now. The messages are gone and the functionality for the plugins is back again.

Thanks so much for hanging in there with me and for your awesome support ??

    Best Regards
    Paul

    Hi Paul – @paulluxford,

That’s great news! ?? Thanks so much for letting me know that you were able to track down where the issue was coming from and that you were able to resolve it! I’ve gone ahead and made a note of this in case it pops up for anyone else.

Are there any other questions I can answer for you? Please don’t hesitate to let me know.

    Cheers,
    Marcus
