  • Are the line breaks still there if you disable the plugin?

Yes, Is this a problem with galleries that I never noticed before? (even though I’ve built dozens WordPress sites with galleries?

If they’re still there when you disable the plugin, it sounds like it’s more of an issue with your theme, another plugin, or possibly WordPress adding in extra paragraph tags around shortcodes. The WP Gallery Custom Links plugin doesn’t really add any new content except attributes on existing link tags. You might want to see if your theme has a post_gallery filter somewhere to see if you can take those extra br tags out. Hope this helps at least a little!

I found other people complaining about empty p tags in shortcodes (so it isn’t your problem but definitely a problem.

Since this seems to be an issue unrelated to this plugin, I’m going to mark it as resolved.
