Extracting User Roles

I have been unable to figure out how to extract User Roles from the UM database. I’m trying to send Roles to Mailchimp using the Mailchimp for WP User Sync plugin. I cannot find any clear text data in the mysql database referring to User Roles. There is a serialized array in usermeta > xxxxxxcapabilities, but the Mailchimp User Sync plugin won’t read array data. Any advice/help most appreciated. TIA.
