• So about a year ago I installed this plugin. Back then, it looked like this:

I installed it for the amazing feature it had that let you organize the list of plugins on the plugin page. That was the reason I got it. It made dealing with a lot of plugins much easier. So today I went searching for that plugin I used to use. This one was the first result and the screenshots looked completely different. There was nothing showing the list of plugins being organized. So I spent the next half hour searching only to find nothing.

Then I opened a site I hadn’t used in a while and saw something strange. A “must-use” plugin that I only remember being on the Plugin Organizer. Problem was, I couldn’t organize my plugin list on the plugin page.

I came to the depressing realization that I found my old plugin on the first try, but the best feature (the only one I installed it for) was gone. It seems like a common sense feature to have but no plugin I can find offers it. I’m extremely disappointed that this plugin did away with it.

I’ve also posted this is as a review but I’m posting it here as well hoping someone will explain to me why that feature is gone and if there’s any alternative that I just somehow couldn’t find.

The plugin groups still exist and you can order the plugins on a page under “Plugin Organizer” in the admin menu called “Group And Order Plugins”. I moved the functionality to group and order plugins off of the plugins page because it was causing problems for some people and was limiting in what I could do. The WordPress core doesn’t have hooks to change the things I needed changed so I was using jQuery to add the bulk menu items and to handle the grouping and ordering.

I could change the order that the plugins appear with a hook. I could add it as sort of a view. Or it could be an option to display your plugins in the order they are loaded in on the plugins page.

Here is a solution, exactly what I think you are look for?

I’m already using that plugin. Thanks though!

    No problem, welcome!

Hi Jeff, the idea of adding a View to the main Plugins list page sounds good. That way the original order and the load order can both be viewed from the same screen. I would be very happy to see that in a future version!

Since so many people have had a hard time finding the new ordering and grouping page, I also wonder if it wouldn’t be useful to add a link to the top of the main Plugins list page: “Edit Groups and Load Order.” Just a thought…

    Cheers!

I just recently updated wordpress to 4.3.1 & a updated a bunch of plugins, including this one. I’ve spent several days trying to troubleshoot why I couldn’t change the order of my plugins anymore, and just realized from this thread that the load order no longer shows on the plugin page, and there is a separate page for it. Doh! I wish it had stayed on the plugin page.
