I need help. I am new at this.

So let me start from beginning. I put in CSS code into my Live Preview and it would change but when I would check site from WordPress, it wouldn’t update. I could check preview from the Edit pages and it was updated. So I did research. Spent a day figuring it out.

I deactivated and reactivated plugins. I cleared cache. Now it works. My top bar is turquoise instead of the pink that comes with the theme. Seems it is now reading my CSS code.

BUT NOW, my Home page is gone. When I go to Edit page, and edit my home page, it is there and image is there. When I go to Preview, it’s gone. When I go to my site, it’s gone. All other pages are there but my Home page. Yes, my home page is set to Static, front page.

I’m at a loss of what to do. This has taken me weeks to set up, and I’m about to just go to Wix because I built my husband’s site in less than an hour. Honestly WordPress has just made everything seem so hard.

I’m ready to just give up.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • This looks like Bluehost has a standard index.php file that is overriding your home template.

Where can I go for help on changing that or fixing it?

I google and nothing comes up.

    Okay.
    Grab a cup of coffee.
Then log in to your hosting panel.
Different hosting panels use different software, so this might be different for you.

You’re looking for something called File Manager (or an equivalent to that).

You want to browse to your root directory and check for a file called index.html
It is preferable to download the file if you’re not very techy, to not risk making unintended changes.
Check the contents of the file with either Notepad (do NOT use Word), or preferably Notepad++

You can then post a screenshot of the contents here using any photo-sharing service you feel comfortable with. An example is imgur.com

Sorry again not tech savvy so it took me awhile to figure out what you are talking about. It’s a huge file so not sure if that’s the one but only one I found was index.php

Not sure what I’m looking for so that image is just the beginning.

That particular file was generated by WordPress (and it needs to be there).
That is why I needed you to post the screenshot, so you don’t accidentally delete the wrong file ??

You are looking for an index.html file that is generating “Coming Soon” text from Bluehost.
It should be outside of the directories that contain WordPress – so it should be right at the base of the file system.

If it really isn’t there, that may mean that your host is using some sort of caching system (it’s a way to speed up sites by saving them at intervals – it loads them faster, but it also means that new content takes a while to show up – it’s a balancing act).
In that case you will need to wait a while and contact your host if it doesn’t resolve.

For now, you’re still hunting index.html though ??

    Found index.html

I don’t have personal experience with Bluehost (and as there are a number of ways that file can be generated / called), I asked around and one of the lead developers at Bluehost sent this ??

that is something that is added on new installs through our Bluehost plugin. You can turn it off in 3 places
WP -> Settings General -> Coming Soon (toggle)
WP -> Bluehost -> Banner near top of “Home” screen
BH -> My Sites -> Site -> Settings -> Coming Soon

    THAT DID IT!!!

Oh my goodness, what a mess. I hope I don’t get myself into anymore.

Thank you so much!!! You are absolutely the best.

    Yay!!
I see your site now ??

Sela has a special place for many people.
Unfortunately, the theme in the www.ads-software.com theme directory has not been updated in over two years, so you may find it difficult to find support.
You do not need to rush, but you may want to have a look at some of the other themes in the www.ads-software.com theme directory over here:
    https://www.ads-software.com/themes/
There is quite a wide selection.

One more thing, please mark this thread as resolved.
It really helps people with similar problems to yours to find them more easily.

Your site really does look great ??

Yes, I saw that it retired after I had already started working on it. I’ve got too much invested now to switch. :/

Thank you for all your help.
