    Okay it’s happening again with the latest post…and I notice another hiccup that happened with the last so it must be related to the shares count issue: when I tried to manually post to FB, I get this error:

    “Are you sure you want to leave this page?

    You haven’t finished your post yet. Do you want to leave without finishing?”

    It publishes regardless of the error, but it did it like 3 times because I kept trying thinking it didn’t go through.

    My latest post: https://smellslikeinfinitesadness.com/failures-greg-edwards-talks-new-album-the-heart-is-a-monster/

    Please help!

    Thanks,

    Michael

    Update: I tried doing more digging into the issue, but still stumped. I ran the link through debugger (here’s the link). As you will see, I have (174 likes, 89 shares), not one of which is reflected. I’ve tried deleting affiliate links, changing object sizes, all to no avail.

    The only thing I see (which I don’t know how to decipher) is when I click on Graph API and it says this:

    {
    “error”: {
    “message”: “An access token is required to request this resource.”,
    “type”: “OAuthException”,
    “code”: 104
    }
    }

    I’m stumped as my latest posts is showing FB counts now, but the original link is not. Please advice. Thanks!

    Sorry for the delay. Since you had replied to your own thread, it escaped our notice. We don’t have any special notifications to let us know if things are unanswered, so it wasn’t intentional.

    Sometimes, if your post hasn’t published properly or there’s some other delay in the posting process – which sounds like you had some odd behavior when you were making that post – Facebook doesn’t properly cache your posts information on their end, which can cause that delay in the social counts not updating properly.

    I checked your site today, and the share count seems to be showing up properly now for the Edwards post, so Facebook must have refreshed it’s cache of your site in the interim: https://d.pr/i/QFb9

    With your Danzig post, there seemed to have been an error in the scrape information from the post permalink on Facebook. When Publicize sends out the information to social networks, we send the post ID URL – e.g. example.com/?p=1234 instead of example.com/my-new-post – and that post ID URL will redirect to the actual post permalink. I ran the post ID through Facebook’s Debug tool, and there was an error in the scrape information – which is why there wasn’t any counts showing up on the share buttons. I refreshed the scrape for that post ID and now the counts are showing up properly.

    We’re not sure how this issue occurs – it could be slow loading posts, caching issues, etc. – but the errors and the fix are on Facebook’s end.

    If you see that error again, check the post ID URL in Facebook’s tool and if there’s an error, just request a rescrape and that should fix it.

    I hope that helps! Marking as resolved.

    Thank you so much! So do you think getting that “Are you sure you want to leave this page? You haven’t finished your post yet. Do you want to leave without finishing?” message may tie into the scraping issue? I’d never encountered that until the Danzig post, so was just curious. I’ll use that tool going forward if this happens again.

    I’m not sure – that’s not an error message I’ve seen before because that’s not a part of core WordPress or even Jetpack. It’s quite possible that it may have an impact with regards to Facebook’s scraping issue…but I couldn’t tell you with great certainty.

    Happy to help!
