Lately FB finds a random image if there is not one in the post. Previously it would not. I’m using Facebook Auto Publish. The FB scraper invariably finds a random image too. It gives a lot of ‘Warnings that should be fixed’, though I’ve no idea how.

    Warnings That Should Be Fixed
Inferred Property The ‘og:url’ property should be explicitly provided, even if a value can be inferred from other tags.
Inferred Property The ‘og:description’ property should be explicitly provided, even if a value can be inferred from other tags.
Inferred Property The ‘og:image’ property should be explicitly provided, even if a value can be inferred from other tags.
Share App ID Missing The ‘fb:app_id’ property should be explicitly provided, Specify the app ID so that stories shared to Facebook will be properly attributed to the app. Alternatively, app_id can be set in url when open the share dialog.
og:image could not be downloaded or is too small og:image was not defined, could not be downloaded or was not big enough. Please define a chosen image using the og:image metatag, and use an image that’s at least 200x200px and is accessible from Faceboo… See More

I’ve set a default image in the FBOG settings, and it’s big enough. I’ve checked 3/ ‘First image from the post/page content’

Not sure if that’s the right setting. Is there anything else I can try?

Yes I am still using it, and have never deactivated it. Currently I have nos. 3, 4 and 5 set in ‘use image from’.
If there’s no image in the post FB is finding the one set in ‘default image’ but it’s not always finding the one set in ‘use this image’ on the edit post page if I set one there.
I’m not sure the plugins are at fault. I have slow internet and frequently erratic connection to WordPress, and if the post doesn’t publish quickly this is usually when things go wrong. If it publishes quickly the images generally work ok.

I’ll struggle on. Pasting the link into FB at least gives the option of choosing the image and is becoming less of a hassle than the current less-than-automatic posting.

    “the current less-than-automatic posting”
We do not post to Facebook, you know that, right?

Can you please provide a URL where you’re now facing the problem and a screenshot of the “use this image” field on that post?

I do know that you don’t post to FB! That was a general comment! WP gets a bit much sometimes.
FB doesn’t show a random image anymore thanks to your plugin.
The warnings I mentioned before – can I ignore them? Do they have any bearing?

    Anyway…

In this case there is no image in the post but instead of using the one specified in ‘use this image’, it’s using the default image https://carnethy.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/11/Clansman650.jpg
This isn’t too serious but I would like it to use the one I specified.

The screenshot of the ‘use this image’ field is here https://carnethy.com/table-test-page/

Also https://carnethy.com/2017/09/the-simon-wakes-comrie-relay/ should be showing one of the gallery images which are over the minimum size in spite of what you see on screen (css control of thumbnail). But it’s showing the default image. Debug scrapes keep showing the default image.

I’ve just discovered that someone added the images after the post https://carnethy.com/2017/09/the-simon-wakes-comrie-relay/ was published. Though why it’s not showing an image on the scrape now I don’t know.

Sorry, but I’m now confused by all these reports.

At this time, what are the problems you’re experiencing?
