Facebook "like" widget not showing up / breaking site

  • I added the Facebook like widget to the footer area of our site, but for some reason it doesn’t show up half the time, and other times it completely freezes peoples sites. I’m not sure if it’s conflicting with Digg Digg, or the FB plug in (that I use for recommendations that slide in at the bottom) but I would really like to get this fixed if you have any suggestions.

    Just curious how you are determining the challenge is associated with the FB widget in the footer? I’ve reloaded your page at least a dozen times an not once have I seen the footer FB widget seem to be the cause of the slow load. Instead, it appears to me to be one (or more) of the ads and sidebar widgets.

    Is it safe to assume when you remove the footer FB widget you are not getting a challenge with load times? If so, I’m apt to agree with your initial assessment that it is conflicting with one of the other plugin options. Did you set your Digg Digg plugin to load via the “lazy load” method? I’ve found that helps a bit with load times (but I don’t have 3 Facebook widgets trying to load either :|)

    Hey James,

    Thanks so much for your comment. The only thing I’m using with jetpack is the stats and contact forms. (And that FB like box.) If I deactivate it, the page loads much faster. From google console it looks like the FB plugins are conflicting somewhere, and I”m assuming try to load multiple, unnecessary scripts. I’d really like to find out how to resolve it and get them all to play nice.

    I wish I didn’t have to use 3 different fb plug in’s but there isn’t just one that will do what these 3 do. I wish there were. ??

    By the way, I am using the lazy load option on the digg digg plug in.

    The only thing I can think to add, rick4him, is to ask if you’ve tried to use the “Manual Placement” options in the Digg Digg plugin? You may have a challenge placing the php code in the footer if you’re currently using a widget, but you could try the PHP Code Widget and then insert the Digg Digg Manual Placement php code.

    Worth a shot to see if that’s where you are getting your conflict!

    Thanks for the reply. But they are two different like boxes. The digg digg manual placement wouldn’t work in this sitution. If you take a look at a single post you’ll see they “like” different thing.s

    One iikes the blog post article, and the other “likes’ the “url / site” as a whole.
