Facebook share opens in a new tab

  • Following up on a previous request that for some reason is now marked as resolved…

    When sharing to Facebook, it opens the Facebook share in a new tab instead of the usual small popup window. I know it’s just a bit of code change in the javascript file, but I’m not a programmer. Any chance you could pass along the code that would fix that?

    Did you add the facebook APP ID yet?

    The default share opens a new tab because if you look at the TAB URL, it’s an entirely new page hosted on facebook.com, not your own site. It’s also better for mobile users this way.

    When you use the APP ID, the Facebook javascript and API takes over, and however, it looks is the default way that Facebook. There may be ways to change this, but I haven’t looked into it.

    I did add the app id, but had to remove it b/c it’s actually not live yet – still in approval process – won’t work till it’s in live mode.

    I was hoping you had the fix for the popup, but I think I understand you to say that you don’t.

    Thanks anyway – would’ve been the perfect plugin for my needs otherwise. Just not a fan of the way it opens in a new tab.
