Facebook widget displaying Japanese characters

I’m currently using the Lightning theme with VK ExUnit. Everything is running fine, except my Facebook widget is displaying Japanese characters for instructional links (like, comment, forward, etc.). We have widgets set up on other websites and there are no characters like this, so it is not a Facebook setting. This is only happening in the Lightning theme. Can you please help.
