• Dear all,

I’m using the Hungarian version of WP, currently (I believe) the installed version is 4.9.8.
Trying to update to WP 5.0.2 (by hand), I come across the following messages (don’t mind the Hungarian language, I will translate afterward, just wanna keep the original form also):

    “Frissítés let?ltése innen: https://downloads.www.ads-software.com/release/hu_HU/wordpress-5.0.2.zip…

    Frissítés kicsomagolása…

A fájl másolása nem lehetséges.: wordpress/wp-includes/js/mediaelement/mediaelement.js

    Telepítési hiba”

which reads as follows (my translation, might differ from original wording):

    “Downloading update from here:
    https://downloads.www.ads-software.com/release/hu_HU/wordpress-5.0.2.zip…

    Unfolding update…

    Copying files is not possible.:
    wordpress/wp-includes/js/mediaelement/mediaelement.js

    Installation error”

As a fairly newbie to WP, I couldn’t find the reason for this.
Please help, thank you in advance!

If you need any further information (theme, installed plugins, etc.), pleas let me know.

    Thanks in advance,

    Gyorgy Feher

  • Install update via FTP or CPanel (if you have the one in your server).

    Updating WordPress

    Step 1: Replace WordPress files
Get the latest WordPress zip (or tar.gz) file.
Unpack the zip file that you downloaded.
    Deactivate plugins.
Delete the old wp-includes and wp-admin directories on your web host (through your FTP or shell access).
Using FTP or your shell access, upload the new wp-includes and wp-admin directories to your web host, in place of the previously deleted directories.
Upload the individual files from the new wp-content folder to your existing wp-content folder, overwriting existing files. Do NOT delete your existing wp-content folder. Do NOT delete any files or folders in your existing wp-content directory (except for the one being overwritten by new files).
Upload all new loose files from the root directory of the new version to your existing wordpress root directory.

    Hi @fehermagic.,

Try downloading WordPress again, access your server via SFTP or FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel, and delete then replace your copies of everything except the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory with fresh copies from the download. This will effectively replace all of your core files without damaging your content and settings.
Some uploaders tend to be unreliable when overwriting files, so don’t forget to delete the original files before replacing them.

    Thanks
