Failed install, specified password for user account 'root' is not valid
-
Hello there
This is a request for help from someone who is not really savvy in the arena of software installation other than click-and-launch and has found it rather frustrating to unravel for a first-time user.
I downloaded WP (3.4.2)and the Microsoft platform installer (4.0) and am trying to install it on an old machine that still runs XP3 in a webhost-independent setup (everyone I know tells me that it’s a simple click-and-launch affair to get WordPress to run, yet for some reason not on my machine). Launching the installer, I was prompted at some stage for a password and put one in, only to be thrown out of the install at the end with the message that the specified password for the user account ‘root’ is not valid or failed to connect to the database server. This seems to be a common issue, yet the responses I have seen on the forum go way over my head as I am not a programmer.
So I figure I have to go somewhere else to first set up a user profile with the same password and have no idea where. Nor can I start from scratch to get another chance at looking at the password screen to get a clue of what to do differently, or where.
Would someone please be so kind as to help me out here? That would be sooooo much appreciated.
Many thanks and kind regards
Christine
