I keep getting this alert message in my WordPress dashboard:

“Failed to fetch the new data from Google Analytics. Please reauthenticate on the settings page!”

    I try to reauthenticate.
    1. I click “Re-authenticate with your Google account” on the General Settings tab.
    2. I click to Accept “View your Google Analytics data”
    3. I copy the “success code” from the page that follows.
    4. I paste in the General Settings tab in the “Paste your Google code here:” field.
    5. I click Save Changes.

I get a successful save message, but a few clicks later, the error message reappears.

    Anyone know of a fix?

  • Same problem.

    Same issue here.

Still happens after manually entering UA. Plugin Version 5.2.6, WP and all plugins at latest versions.

“Failed to fetch the new data from Google Analytics. Please reauthenticate on the settings page!”

SAme here after updating. “Failed to fetch the new data from Google Analytics.” Entering code manually does not help.

@ J.D. Grimes, your feedback isn’t lost in the chatter. Forwarded it to the team.

@everyone, our first concern is that your data doesn’t get lost. If you’ve entered your UA-code manually AND you see it appear in the page source, you should be fine there.
I’ve created a quick example on our knowledge base: What should the tracking code look like?

It is much easier to use another plugin.

Same issue here while using both automatic and manual config.

    @tacoverdo
I presume you also mean to say that besides not losing our data you’re also on top of finding a solution? ??

I also have this issue, tried both authentication and manual.

Oh hell yeah we are Sjroep. Full development team is working to solve this issue.

However, we have a very hard time reproducing this issue. So we really need your help please. If you are willing to help us solve this problem, please send an email with admin details and (S)FTP login details for your website to [email protected].

I’m well aware that is an unusual request, but I sure hope you’re willing to help us solve this!

Needless to say that I have the same problem.
Will you release a update asap or do we have to fix it manually after you give us a solution?

I wrote a article about a workaround in german!

Hier gibt es eine Zwischenl?sung in deutscher Sprache!

    See you

I don’t think this bug is as serious as it first appears.

In my case, the “Failed to fetch the new data…” error message is showing, but when I view source the Analytics code is in fact there. I’ve checked it’s working by viewing real-time visitor stats and all looks good.

So it looks as though the error message is showing but in fact authentication is fine.

I updated 40+ client sites to 5.2.6 yesterday, and this looks to be the case on the 6 or 7 that I’ve checked so far.

    Hi Vanderelbe,

Unfortunately your post is both wrong (tracking still works) and very unfriendly to the way we’ve been dealing with this problem over the last days.

Instead of writing a blogpost that does nothing but put us in a bad daylight, while we’ve done everything we can to help ALL of you solve this problem, you could have done anything to help us solve this problem, such as writing a full bug report or providing the data I requested in my previous post.

@simon, you are correct. The error prevents you from using the dashboard-feature we added last week, but does not influence the tracking itself.

Are all your client sites running on the same server? Or are they on different servers?
In the latter case, can you see if the servers use different versions of cURL?

They are spread across several different servers, the ones I have command line access to don’t appear to have cURL installed.
