I keep getting this alert message in my WordPress dashboard:

“Failed to fetch the new data from Google Analytics. Please reauthenticate on the settings page!”

    I try to reauthenticate.
    1. I click “Re-authenticate with your Google account” on the General Settings tab.
    2. I click to Accept “View your Google Analytics data”
    3. I copy the “success code” from the page that follows.
    4. I paste in the General Settings tab in the “Paste your Google code here:” field.
    5. I click Save Changes.

I get a successful save message, but a few clicks later, the error message reappears.

    Anyone know of a fix?

I’m helping the german community with this problem (just in english) and telling all what it means to use a free plugin.

I tried to get in connection with the support, but I just got a standard email that I’m not a Premium user.

Sorry if you think that I’m talking bad about yoast – I don’t. I’m just helping… for free.

We are getting it on most of our sites.

Hi @tacoverdo, I have a little bit of time, if you tell me which files you need I can send it to you. You can understand that I am not really willing to give you access to my server but I am free and you can ask me any files you need. I had the issue twice today but I re authenticate every time, hope you can still see what you need or do you need me to wait until the error comes back?

We’re currently building a beta version that should fix this issue and/or provide a proper error in case something really is broken. If you’re willing to beta-test that, that’d be great ??

Great I’ve got the message back. I can test it if you want and tell you if the error message goes away with your beta ??

@guillaume and everyone else, can you please try if this beta solves your problem?

    https://yoast.com/downloads/google-analytics-for-wordpress-5.2.7-beta.zip

sure trying this right now ??

Sorry for the dummy question, but I just decompress the zip in my plugin folder and overwrite any files? No DB update or anything required?

@tacoverdo I just emailed you. I will also try the beta and let you know if this solve the problem.

@Guilliame, overwriting the files via (S)FTP is the easiest option. Deleting the plugin and then reinstalling via the upload-function is also a valid way to install the beta.

Oh wow, looks like something has gone wrong since so many people are reporting it within one day.

On the other side, I keep receiving the message and even though I haven’t manually entered the UA code, the Google Analytics code is displayed fine on all the pages of my site.

I am not bothered by that note. I just want to know that I can continue using it like this or is there any security problems?

You can safely continue to use it. It’s just the dashboards-feature that may be unavailable to you. Tracking itself works like a charm and there are no reports of security issues ??

I just updated to the beta version and it has not removed the error message. It’s still showing up as v5.2.6 in the plugins page and in the HTML comment in the page source.

Well sorry @tacoverdo but it doesn’t seem like it’s fixing the issue. But maybe I need to re-authenticate one last time I see if it comes back? Or the message should disappear right away?

Also I’ve emptied all caches to be sure.

    Do I re-authenticate?
