• I have this problem on two sites but can’t locate the second one. The error message I’m seeing is: Failed to load plugin: wordpress from url …/wp-includes/js/tinymce/plugins/wordpress/plugin.min.js.

I’ve read other posts on this topic that say to try to view it in a browser. I get a 404 but I can see that the file is on the server. This is happening in Classic posts and not in Block. The error is happening whether the plugin is active or deactivated. The icons are being added to the content editor when the plugin is active and they work, although I had to try a couple times to undo in the text tab. I removed the suspect items from the functions file, no change. There are no console errors related to this.

The plugin notes “Warning: This plugin has not been tested with your current version of WordPress.” It is tested up to 5.7.5 and I’m on 5.9. Hasn’t been updated in 10 months.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

I should also note, this started happening at an unknown time a month or two ago and no changes other than plugin and WordPress version updates and posts have been made.

Fortunately your message came through to my email, reiterating some observations I noted:
As you can see from the plugin’s description as well as other support threads, the plugin sadly does not support WordPress 5.9 or even 5.8. It has not been updated for close to 11 months.
Also note: Based on user feedback, it seems it also does not support PHP 8.

Too many hosting platforms offer or force automatic updates, so it is unfortunate when a plugin with 2 million users authored by the creators of WordPress isn’t actively supported or phased out with a plan. In fact, they are not even replying to this support topic. We’d all probably like to retire Classic, but some clients are still using it.

It would be nice to learn how to get rid of the error message which lingers even when the plugin is deactivated.

Yeah, the plugin has not been updated in a year, and there is currently no support.

The plugin is completely free, so I and other users can’t really complain. We should be grateful to the developers for all the years we have been able to use it.

If the plugin actually has been abandoned, it would be very helpful if @azaozz or @automattic could let us know, so we can look for alternatives or help elsewhere.
