• I have been using WordPress for 1 year+ and have never had this issue until recently. I keep getting an error message whenever I am editing something that has to do with any text, the text will not show and after a few seconds the text will load along with a red strip across my screen with the following error message:

Failed to load plugin: colorpicker from url https://www.theequinox.com.au/wp-includes/js/tinymce/plugins/colorpicker/plugin.min.js

I believe it started appearing around the same time that I installed about 2-3 plugins one day but I am 99% sure that I have de-activated those same plugins and the error message is still appearing. I’m not sure if those plugins have anything to do with it or if it’s just a coincidence. Thanks.

  • Hello,

Try to re-install the color picker plugin. Delete it first and install it again. It may fix your problem.

I would try deactivating all the plugins at one time to see if that makes a difference. You can also try switching to a default theme, such as Twenty Seventeen, to see if the error goes away.

Have you tried clearing your browser’s cache or using a different browser? I’ve seen some threads where the cache was causing the problem.

    Hi @ujnimz,
When I look at my list of plugins there is no ‘color picker’ plugin. That’s why I was confused from the start when it says ‘failed to load plugin: color picker’. Unless the plugin is named something else?

A TinyMCE (the WordPress editor) plugin is not the same thing as a WordPress plugin. The TinyMCE color picker plugin is bundled by WordPress in /wp-includes/js/tinymce/plugins/colorpicker/plugin.js. Since it’s a core WordPress file, you shouldn’t need to disable/deactivate/reactivate/install/enable it on its own.

So what is the solution in layman’s terms please for the url error message:

Thank you for creating with WordPress. Version 4.9
Failed to load plugin: colorpicker from url https://www.oldironaz.com/wp-includes/js/tinymce/plugins/colorpicker/plugin.min.js
