• I’ve upgraded to 4.4.1 and can’t access the wp-admin dashboard.

    1. I’ve disabled all plugins by changing the directory name to plugins.hold.
    2. I’ve changed my theme to twenty-fifteen via the database. I also renamed the directory of my original theme to nirvana.hold.
    3. I’ve turned off permalinks.
    4. I turned on debug and I’m not getting any errors.
    5. I’ve cleared my browsers cache and cookies.

But I still can’t get to the dashboard. I just keep returning to my home page. What is going on? And how do I fix this?

    Regards,
    Gail

It’s possible that one (or more) of the core files were damaged.

Try downloading WordPress again, access your server via SFTP or FTP, or a file manager in your hosting account’s control panel, and delete then replace your copies of everything on the server except the wp-config.php file and the /wp-content/ directory with fresh copies from the download. This will effectively replace all of your core files without damaging your content and settings.

Some uploaders tend to be unreliable when overwriting files, so don’t forget to delete the original files before replacing them.

And what about the database? This won’t affect the database will it?

No, because you’re only replacing the files, you aren’t even going anywhere near the database.

I will try that now! Thank you.

Hi, I followed the steps and I’m still returning to my home page when I type:
    https://www.mders.org/wp-admin/login.php

I still can’t get to the dashboard. I haven’t even turned on the plugins yet.

I did turn on debug mode and got the following:
Notice: The called constructor method for WP_Widget is deprecated since version 4.3.0! Use __construct() instead. in /home/miemss5/public_html/wp-includes/functions.php on line 3624.

Oh, because that doesn’t exist. ??

You want either https://www.mders.org/wp-admin/ or https://www.mders.org/wp-login.php

Ah ha! Okay, tried that and I’m getting a redirect loop! Any ideas?

Hi again, I’m not sure what is going wrong, but I have a dev site that is running 4.3.1 but it doesn’t have the most up-to-date data. The data is in my 4.4.1 database. Is there anyway to merge the two? The 4.3.1 WordPress with the 4.4.1 database?

Thank you again for your help!

There were database changes in 4.4, so you’ll need to bring that 4.3.1 site up to 4.4.1 first.

Once that’s done, you can just direct the wp-config.php file to the other database.
