I would be very grateful for any help that someone can provide. I feel like I am in quicksand and getting deeper and deeper!

I have a domain myname.com which I have had for some time and which is hosted by a good UK host that specialises in WordPress hosting. For a few months I have run a blog on that domain with no problem.

Then, a few weeks ago I created a subdomain testsite.myname.com, installed a fresh copy of WP and started to build a new website. With this simple site finished, I purchased a new domain for it and a second hosting account with the same host as before. I successfully changed the dns servers for the domain so that I could get the basic “Hello world” website working.

It is probably worth mentioning that the first hosting account is on a Cloud Web Hosting platform but the new hosting is on a cPanel platform. The Former was running php5.6 and the later php7.3. I downgraded the domain on the cpanel to 5.6.

With the help of the web, I installed all-in-one WP migration on all three WP installations and tried to use that to move everything around. Long story short, after days of trying, adjusting and trying again (with lots of forum reading and suggestions, I have given up with the All-in-One route. I successfully moved the testsite on the subdomain to the ‘parent’ domain and I was able to successfully import the blog to the new domain, but now they need to swap. Blog successfully imported to the myname.com domain but the test site just doesn’t want to know.

I have both sites backed up – I used FTP to download the rootfolders and Database files, and as I had Updraft Plugin installed on both, I have .zip backup folders.

I have tried to follow online guidance about uploading files and adjusting database entries and URLs and using BlueVelvet but frankly I am pretty confused. Too often guidance says things like “edit the .htaccess file…” but is not so clear as to which one. Or “upload the files to the root folder…” but is not very clear on EXACTLY what to upload and to EXACTLY where. And do I need to install a clean version of WP (done that so many times!) and then upload, or does the upload do the install?

I would be very grateful for any assistance.

    Rupert

Can you please clarify what is the actual problem you have now?

    Hi Shihab,

Thanks for responding. Whilst I was successfully able to use All-in-One WP Migration to get the blog exported and then imported to the other domain, it just wouldn’t work for the other site.

I have now spoken to my hosting company (TSO Host) on Chat who have been brilliant and got it all fixed for me. Seems that when I used the MySQLDatabase Wizard to create the new database, what I entered as the database name (and then edited in the wp-config.pho) got an extra bit appended to the name!

Hi @rtl123 Glad to hear that it’s now fixed!

Good to know your issue was resolved, at times this type of issue is also related to cache or php-FPM.
Due to which we do not see the changes. After reading your issue I found the issue quite easy for a Web hosting company to resolve, being a hosting provider ourselves we always try to help our customers with such kind of problems.
