• before knowing i needed your plugin to get ssl support, i tried setting up gmail/pop3 under wp’s standard ‘writing’ settings. since that didn’t work (no ssl), i installed your plugin, which seemed to remove those settings and import those values to your settings under ‘tools/post by email.’ however, it didn’t function — ‘check now’ just made log entries ‘please check again in 5 mins’ and i always got the notice at the top of each page that ‘post by email is inactive until you set it up.’ only once i changed settings (in this case, switching to imap) did it start working.

    btw, why put the settings under ‘tools’ rather than ‘settings’?

    when using imap, does the post have to be unread in order to be downloaded? is this documented anywhere?

    i can’t get inline images from gmail to work, but attached images do work. if you give me an email, i can send you an example that didn’t work. the jetpack method does work for the inline images.

    the broken image comes from:
    <img src=”cid:ii_147dbee062527ef7″ alt=”Inline image 2″ width=”533″ height=”562″ style=”margin-right:0px”>

    jetpack’s working img element uses a src to a png it put in blog/wp-content/uploads.

    finally, can you add a faq about the relative merits of using this vs. the jetpack method? thanks!

    postie works and also uses the blog/wp-content/uploads approach.

    i found this, where you discuss relative merits vs jetpack and postie.

    if i read correctly, the one thing this does that those don’t is import the old “wordpress/settings/writing” values? and even that didn’t work for me until changing one of them?

    kat got back to me – she says inline images aren’t expected to work. she’s updating the plugin for wp4, but not with any timeline since it’s just volunteer. she mentioned postie as an alternative — i’ve tried it and it works for inline images and attachments fine. wp plugin search doesn’t bring up postie when you search for ‘post by email’ — ugh so lame.
