Tried to restore my site tonight because of something minor but keep getting a “Critical Error” in the restore process and it fails; so my site is now all jacked up worse than before I started the “restore.” I used UpdraftPlus once before on a tiny site and it seemed beneficial, but now on my more important site I guess it’s not doing what I thought it could. Can I manually restore or is this just broken? Sorta terrified now. I’ve probably got a couple days work ahead trying to repair my site from the condition it’s in. ??

Is there a better way to backup my site going forward? Pretty discouraged because my nice looking site is now so crazy messed up that I could cry.

    Hi,

To help us work out the cause of your problem, can you please send us a copy of the restoration log only? You can find this log in the ‘wp-content/updraft’ directory of your site via https://FTP.You can send the log file and copy the contents into an online tool (such as https://pastebin.com/ )

    Kind Regards,

Ok, not sure which one that is, but this is the most recent log listed there:

    Hi,

The log shows that the restoration got stuck while restoring the uploads.zip component. The usual cause for this is due to lack of server resources. Please ask your host/server admin to increase your server resources such I/O limit, maximum_execution_timeout and site memory.

    Thanks,

Ok, my hosting says settings are already at the max, but my restoration still gets hung up during “Uploads” (I can understand that. I can also understand that since it’s gotten through everything else except “Others,” my site looks mooooostly ok except for alignments and formatting).

So… I’ve read your Manual Restore page and is it as simple as just replacing things by FTP? I’m going to go forward trying that. I don’t really think I may need to replace my database, but anything tricky I need to do with this .gz file in myPHP if I have to?

[This hasn’t turned out to be as catastrophic as I thought, but this is my business site, so I need to restore it ASAP]

UPDATE: So I manually replaced the directories with the backups I had and that totally did it. Did not need to fuss with the database (so far, lol). ????

The Others is mostly WP files included in every install and cache so I would not worry about this. I never bother restoring the Others. I did try and look at your log but it was unavailable.
