I’m using iTSec 4.6.6 and seem to have a problem related to the recent 4.6.2 bug. My banned users have totally disappeared from .htaccess. They remain in Settings > Banned Users but refuse to write to .htaccess. Permissions are 0664; something chaned perms from 0644 where I set them. I can check the Enable Ban Users checkbox, click save but no joy. After Save, the checkbox is again unchecked. What’s happening?

I have a backup but the Settings > Banned Users is obviously stored somewhere in addition to .htaccess so I am concerned about simply restoring the file.

Also, the Hackrepair.com blacklist does enable/disable correctly to .htaccess.

    Thanks,
    Sturdy2

Thanks for the explanation. Of course you are right and I have removed the banned agents since they are geo blocked anyway. I wondered what that [OR] meant.

But, I think there is still a problem with the error messages. If I change the first occurence (line 631) then the complete banned user error msg displays as it should. I think this is all okay now.

The second occurence (line 649) is obviously provides a similar function but for the whitelist instead. If it remains True, error messages do not show when the IP is hyphenated. When changed to False (and, logically I think it should be False) I get the attached message. The first part (upper) is correct but the banned Users portion (lower) is probably not correct. Those two * IPs are not whitelisted but are in the banned list. Also, the Banned User feature is NOT disabled as it says. It appears there are apples mixed in with the oranges.

Bottom line, all is working for me and I much appreciate the help. Now to try the update…

Edit: Darn, I can’t attach a screenshot! Give me a minute or two.

    Upper message
There is a problem with an IP address in the white list:

71.176.243-48 is not a valid address in the white list users box.

    Lower message:
Note that the banned users feature has been disabled until the following errors are corrected:

98.126.*.* is not a valid address as it has been white listed.
204.124.180.* is not a valid address as it has been white listed.

It could be the symptom of your issue as initially reported in this topic was also affected by PHP version.
Remember I got HALF the message and you did not get ANY message ?
I’m currently running on PHP 5.5.15.
Would you be so kind and let me know your PHP version ?
(The iTSec plugin will tell you in the “PHP Information” section of the “System Information” metabox on the first plugin Dashboard page).

Oh by the way this request is part of investigating your other issue. More news to come …

    Ok, great thanks.

You should know that there are 2 errors in my instructions to fix the issue introduced in iTSec 4.6.8.

If you have any unexpected results after following those instructions please read my rectification in that topic (well read it anyway).

No problem, got it the first time. Everything is coming up roses. Thanks again.

The bug as described in my 6th post of this topic is fixed in the 5.1.0 release.
The fix is implemented due to another fix as described in the 5.1.0 Changelog:

Bug Fix: Updated the Banned Users settings to no longer add a newline to the Ban Hosts input each time the settings page is saved.
