Fake User Registrations

  • I am the webmaster for this page, and I’m experimenting with a few plugins to get a member only forum and file share. I have all pages related to this experimentation set to draft, I have the allow user registration box UNchecked in settings, and have even changed the default landing page for login and user registrations. I’m wondering what I am missing to keep these users from registering on the site. I can’t launch these new features until I get a handle on this. Any help would be awesome.

  • Site is Not Suitable for Work

    Invest in WordFence and Wordfence Login Security or similar security plugin. You may need the pro version for some of this capability. You can do things like:

    1. Add captcha for registration and login
    2. Ban access from specific IPs, domains, geographic regions, email domains,
    3. Disallow some common spammer user names and password patterns
    4. Limit number of login attempts
    5. With Wordfence Login Security can also force 2-factor authentication
